Affordable Internet
With the rising cost of living and broadband prices going up, many households are finding it harder to stay connected. If you’re on a low income or receiving benefits, you may be eligible for discounted broadband packages (social tariffs) or free mobile data through national schemes.
If you receive Universal Credit or other income-related benefits, you could be eligible for a low-cost broadband package, known as a social tariff. These deals are designed to help reduce household bills and could save you up to £144 a year.
You may be eligible if you receive:
- Universal Credit
- Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Pension Credit
Broadband providers offering social tariffs include:
- Virgin Media O2 Essential Broadband - starting at £12.50 a month
- Virgin Media O2 Essential Broadband Plus - starting at £20 a month
- Vodafone Essentials Broadband - starting at £12 a month
- BT Home Essentials - starting at £15 a month, plus £9.99 P&P
- Sky Broadband Basics - starting at £20 a month
Some deals may depend on availability at your address. For the latest offers, visit your broadband provider’s website or call them, or check trusted sources like Ofcom or MoneySavingExpert.
Free internet for jobseekers
If you’re claiming Universal Credit via the Jobcentre, speak to your Job Coach about accessing this product. You may be able to get six months of free broadband through the TalkTalk and DWP Broadband for Jobseekers programme. Eligible customers will receive access to an uncapped superfast broadband connection, provided free of cost for six months with no contract or credit checks involved. At the end of the six-month period, customers can roll onto a TalkTalk contract or cancel the service at no additional cost.
Free mobile data, texts, and calls
We’ve partnered with the Good Things Foundation to help Camden residents stay connected through the National Databank. This scheme provides free SIM cards with mobile data, texts, and calls for people who are unable to afford connectivity.
Supported by mobile networks Vodafone, O2, and Three, this initiative is aimed at anyone experiencing data poverty – whether you need access for job interviews, healthcare information, online services, or simply to keep in touch.
