Celebrating Ramadan and Eid

This is the improved Camden website. Tell us what you think.

Celebrating Ramadan and Eid

In 2025, Ramadan starts at sundown on 28 February to 29 March. The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar calendar, so the dates of each month are based on when the crescent moon is sighted.

Ramadan is a very special time for many of our Muslim friends and residents.

Some people fast during Ramadan and wake up early to eat a meal before dawn: ‘Suhoor’ or Sehri. For many observing the fast, it is more than abstaining from all food and drink, it is as a way to be more conscious of God.

Iftar is the meal to break the fast at sunset, which traditionally starts with a date or water.

Many organisations host community iftars and Eid events, inviting local communities to break fast and celebrate together. Details of events will be posted here as they become available.

Community Iftars 2025

Interfaith collaboration is also a key feature of Ramadan in Camden, with faith groups and community organisations working together to promote understanding and solidarity. We're proud to have over a dozen community iftars taking place across the borough. This Ramadan, we'd encourage everyone who believes in the value of Interfaith work to join a Community Iftar.
