The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) aims to improve the learning and development of children from birth to age 25. We work with children, young people, parents and carers. We also work with professionals in schools and wider services to meet a child's needs.
What the EPS does
We use strengths-based approaches to understand children, assess their needs and consider what support they might need to access education. We support them to develop their skills in the 4 areas of SEND needs, which are:
- communication and interaction
- learning and development
- social, emotional and mental health
- sensory and physical
We aim to promote positive learning experiences and support overall wellbeing. We also contribute to Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessments.
We follow a cycle of assess, plan, do and review throughout our work.
How to access the EPS
Children and young people are usually referred to us by the Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCo) at their nursery, school or college.
You cannot directly refer your child to us. If you have concerns about your child, talk to the SENCo, who can talk about support options with you.
If a child is referred to us, we'll get in touch with you to get consent before working with them. If they're aged 16 or over, they can give their own consent.
