About the library

You can visit the library to browse and borrow books, use our public computers, or find a quiet place to study.

There’s no need to book in advance. PCs are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a two-hour daily limit. You can also scan, print and photocopy documents.

View our Public Computers Policy (PDF) and our Wi-Fi Policy.

You can return books, DVDs or CDs on loan within the opening hours.

We also offer a range of activities for our library users. See what's on this month. Our services may change at short notice, so for the latest information, see Library news.

Library of Things is moving to Swiss Cottage

Library of Things is coming to Swiss Cottage Library in September. You’ll be able to rent useful household, DIY and gardening items and more at low cost rather than buying new, helping you save money and reduce waste.

If you would like to be the first to know when it opens, sign up for updates.

Borrow a ukulele

Borrow a Ukulele from Swiss Cottage library or join a free 6-week course for beginners. Find out more and book.

Swiss at Sixty

The library service is celebrating the 60th year of Swiss Cottage Library. The library was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 10 November 1964.  To celebrate the 60th year, the children’s library at Swiss Cottage Library has been redesigned to make the space more engaging and interactive. Explore family-friendly spaces and free children’s events at Swiss Cottage Library, as well as other Camden libraries.

Contacting the Council at your local library

Courtesy phones have recently been reinstated in all Camden Libraries except Pancras Square Library where residents can speak with a team member at Contact Camden. This means you can speak with someone and complete tasks by using the phone at the library. Ask the library team if you need assistance.

Displaying posters and flyers

The library displays posters to promote local events and services. Our Community Information Policy outlines the criteria used when deciding whether to display a particular poster.

Do you have an idea for an activity or event?

We would like to hear from you if you have an idea for an activity or event that you could help organise. We will welcome your idea and discuss this with you to see if it's something we can support you to deliver in the library space. There is also Camden Giving if you think your idea needs some resources.
