Get help to pay for a funeral
If you need help paying for a funeral, you may be eligible for financial support.
Funeral Expenses Payment scheme
If you’re on certain benefits, the government-run Funeral Expenses Payment scheme can help with covering the costs of a funeral you’re arranging, including:
burial fees for a particular plot
cremation fees, including the cost of the doctor’s certificate
travel to arrange or attend the funeral
the cost of moving the body within the UK, if more than 50 miles
death certificates and other documents
You can also get up to £1,000 for any other expenses, such as funeral director’s fees, flowers or the coffin.
Find out more about the Funeral Expenses Payment scheme on GOV.UK.
Children’s Funeral Fund for England
This fund can help to pay for some of the costs of a funeral for a child under 18 or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy, if it's taking place in England.
It is not means-tested, so your earnings or your savings will not affect what you get.

Public health funeral
When someone dies within the borough boundary of Camden and there’s no one willing or able to arrange the funeral, we are responsible. If they lived in Camden but died elsewhere, that local authority is responsible for funeral arrangements.
Find out more about public health funerals on the Camden Care Choices website.
Bereavement Support Payment
If your legal partner has died, you may be able to get a Bereavement Support Payment. This can be a one-off sum or monthly payments for up to 18 months.
