About Camden's looked after children and care leavers service

Camden’s looked after children and care leavers service is responsible for providing social work support to:

If you were looked after by Camden for more than 13 weeks since your 14th birthday and ending after your 16th birthday, you will be entitled to a leaving care service once you reach your 18th birthday.

Information for local authorities placing children in Camden

If a local authority is placing a looked after child in Camden, a notification must be sent to the looked after children team. A notification must also be sent where:

  • there has been a change of address / change of placement
  • the looked after child is leaving Camden.

Notifications should highlight any particular risks and vulnerabilities to assist Camden’s professional network in responding effectively to any issues that may arise.

Corporate parenting refers to the collective responsibility of all elected members, council staff and partner agencies to provide the best possible support and safeguarding to children in care.

Support for care experienced children and young people 

If you’re a young person with a social worker, a Camden child who is looked after or a care experienced young person, visit Camden Rise website to find services, support, activities and opportunities or ways to get involved in your community. You can also download the Pocket PA app onto your mobile phone. 

Free prescriptions for care experienced young people 

Care experienced young people can apply for a free Prescription Prepayment Certificate so they do not have to pay for prescribed medication. You are eligible for a free Prescription Prepayment Certificate if you are:

  • a care experienced young person from Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington (it doesn’t matter where you live now)
  • aged 18 to 24 (up to your 25th birthday)
  • registered with a GP
  • not already eligible for free prescriptions for another reason.
